Kitchen and bath remodels
Walls, ceilings and floors in the work zone are sampled layer by layer. Positive materials come out under containment before cabinets, tub surrounds or tile are torn out.
Typical cost in Brooklyn Park
Our crew goes in ahead of the remodeler or wrecking crew, because state rules require asbestos to come out of a building, a family home included, before renovation or demolition. Plaster, joint compound, window glazing, siding and roofing are all on MDH’s list of possible asbestos sources, and a remodel or teardown can open any of them.
Remodel and teardown abatement is available in Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and Crystal.

If your asbestos siding or roofing is in good condition, MDH’s advice is to leave it. A new roof or new siding changes that, and we then take off just the sections your project will disturb.
Your demolition date sets our deadline, since abatement must wrap up two or more days before it. Any asbestos still in a section that is knocked down makes that whole pile of debris asbestos waste. A house of up to four units needs no MPCA notice, except when it was converted from another use, when the same owner is tearing down several houses, or when the work is for an urban renewal, highway or commercial development project.
We file the MPCA notice for every commercial demolition and for any apartment building with five or more units. Then the crew holds off for ten working days before the building comes down.
The city’s demolition permit form deals with the applicant and utility shut-offs and has no asbestos questions. The asbestos records go to the county instead.
Hennepin County’s own ordinance requires asbestos to be removed before a building is demolished or renovated, and its staff inspect homes and commercial properties before they come down. For that visit, we put our abatement receipts and waste manifests in your hands, alongside the asbestos survey and its report.
Ask each bidder for proof of an MDH license and of worker and supervisor certification. MDH also suggests collecting the state permit, the waste manifests and the lab report from air sampling, and comparing more than one written bid.
