Popcorn Ceiling Removal in Brooklyn Park

Typical cost in Brooklyn Park

  • One room ceiling, about 150 to 250 sq ft$1,700 – $4,300+
  • Several rooms or one floor, about 600 to 1,000 sq ft$5,000 – $13,500+
  • Whole house, about 1,500 to 2,000 sq ft of ceiling$9,500 – $24,000+

Popcorn texture is one of the ceiling finishes the Minnesota Department of Health lists as a possible asbestos source. If a lab confirms it in your ceiling, our crew closes off the room, wets the texture and scrapes it straight into sealed bags.

The work goes to a licensed contractor when friable texture covers more than 6 square feet, unless the house is a single-family home that you own and occupy. MDH strongly recommends a licensed contractor even for that owner. Minnesota ended the ceiling exemption for homes and small buildings of up to four units on July 1, 2021. Our ceiling crews cover Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and Crystal.

Ceiling jobs we handle

Single rooms

We can do one bedroom or the living room on its own. The room is emptied and lined in plastic, then a HEPA negative air machine runs until an air test clears it.

Vaulted ceilings and stairwells

Tall ceilings and open stairwells need scaffolding inside the containment. We size that setup during the walkthrough.

Painted or water-stained texture

Paint over the texture and old water marks both change the plan, so we look for them before we quote.

Leaving texture in place

If the texture is intact and nobody will touch it, you can leave it alone. Plans to add a fixture, change a wall or sand the ceiling are the point where a test pays off.

Before ceiling day

Getting a room ready takes a few steps.

Empty the room

The room needs to be bare, so curtains, rugs, furniture and wall art go elsewhere. Smoke alarms, fans and light fixtures are either covered in place or taken down.

Plan around the closed room

Expect to lose the room for the length of the job, since the seal stays on until clearance samples pass. A bedroom or home office means finding another spot to sleep or work for those days.

Line up the finish

Let us know early which finish follows us, whether that is new drywall, a skim coat or paint. We leave the bare ceiling ready for that crew.
