Floor Tile and Sheet Vinyl Removal in Brooklyn Park

Typical cost in Brooklyn Park

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, about 50 to 100 sq ft$1,150 – $2,800+
  • One kitchen or large room, about 150 to 300 sq ft$1,700 – $4,800+
  • Several rooms or a basement, about 500 to 1,000 sq ft$3,800 – $11,500+

Each layer of an old floor can contain asbestos, and a clean result on the top layer does not clear the one below. We have the vinyl tile, any sheet vinyl and the black glue tested separately, then lift the positive layers down to the subfloor and bag the pieces as they come loose.

Our flooring crews work in kitchens, baths, entries and lower levels across Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and Crystal. Since July 1, 2021, Minnesota’s asbestos work limits have counted the floors in single-family homes and in buildings with up to four units.

Flooring we remove

Vinyl floor tile

Where a tile comes free in one piece, we lift it whole by hand. Sanders, grinders and chisels would break the tile down, so those tools stay out of the room.

Sheet vinyl

Linoleum-type sheet flooring has a paper backing that MPCA treats as friable in most cases. We keep the sheet wet, cut it as it lifts and bag it piece by piece.

Adhesive and mastic

Black adhesive gets its own sample and, if positive, its own removal step once the tile is gone.

Covering the old floor

You may be able to leave a sound old floor where it is and lay the new one over it, MDH says. That advice changes once tiles are broken or crumbling, because damaged flooring can release fibers.

Planning a floor job

A floor job is easier to schedule when the room is clear.

Lower-level family rooms

Clear the family room down to bare floor. Our crew tapes plastic up the walls and across the stairs so dust stays in the lower level.

Kitchens and baths

Before we start, someone has to disconnect the appliances and perhaps the toilet. Tell us who that will be and we will schedule around them.

Under the old floor

With the old layers gone, the subfloor is in plain view. Rot or water damage, if there is any, goes on our notes for your installer’s bid.
